The Government of Sindh has announced a route-based transport facility for girls enrolled in secondary and higher secondary schools, aiming to improve access to education in rural and underserved areas.
Officials from the Sindh School Education Department said the initiative is designed to tackle one of the biggest barriers to girls’ education: the lack of safe and reliable transportation. The move is expected to significantly reduce dropout rates and encourage continued enrollment among female students.

Tackling Barriers to Girls’ Education
Authorities emphasized that access to education is a constitutional right under Article 25-A of the Constitution of Pakistan and the Sindh Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2013.
Despite these legal guarantees, many girls—especially in rural districts—struggle to attend school due to long distances and safety concerns. The planned transport service aims to provide secure and structured commuting options, easing parental concerns and enabling more families to send their daughters to school.
Expected Impact on Attendance and Learning
Education officials say the initiative will not only improve enrollment but also enhance attendance, punctuality, and overall academic performance.
Frequent absenteeism caused by travel difficulties often leads to poor results and eventual dropouts. By ensuring reliable transport, the government hopes to improve retention rates and learning outcomes.
The scheme is also expected to benefit female teachers working in remote areas, helping ensure regular classroom attendance and consistent teaching schedules.
Focus on High-Dropout Districts
The program will be rolled out in phases, starting with districts that have historically faced the greatest challenges in girls’ education.
Priority areas include:
Umerkot
Badin
Jamshoro
Larkana
Shaheed Benazirabad
Ghotki
Malir
Officials said these districts were selected based on data highlighting low attendance and high dropout rates among female students.
Part of Broader Education Strategy
The transport initiative aligns with the Sindh Education Sector Plan 2019–2024 and supports Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on inclusive and equitable quality education.
Authorities noted that the program will complement ongoing efforts to expand school infrastructure and improve access to education across the province.
Moving Toward Better Access for Girls
Education experts and stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that safe transport is often the deciding factor in whether a girl continues her education beyond primary level.
With this initiative, the Sindh government aims to turn policy into practical impact, ensuring that distance and safety concerns no longer prevent girls from accessing education.
