KP Govt Introduces Work-from-Home Fridays, Announces Short Spring Break

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has announced new measures aimed at reducing fuel expenses and improving resource management. These include a weekly work-from-home policy for government offices and a short spring break for educational institutions.

According to an official notification issued by the Establishment and Administration Department, the policy will come into effect from March 24 and is expected to continue for around two months.

Under the new plan, all government offices across the province will observe work-from-home on Fridays. Officials say the move is intended to cut down fuel consumption caused by daily commuting, while ensuring that official work continues smoothly through digital systems.

At the same time, a brief spring break has been announced for both public and private schools. Authorities have clarified that this holiday will not affect ongoing board or university exams, which will continue as per schedule.

The government has designed the break in a way that it aligns with the existing weekend. With Friday, Saturday, and Sunday already off in many institutions, the additional holidays during the week will create a longer continuous break, reducing the need for travel and campus operations.

Officials say the main goal behind these steps is to lower fuel usage, reduce expenses, and ease traffic pressure in major cities like Peshawar. The policy is also expected to bring environmental benefits by cutting down vehicle emissions.

Department heads have been directed to ensure smooth implementation of the work-from-home system, while schools have been asked to follow the holiday schedule without disrupting exam arrangements.

The policy is temporary for now, and the government will review its impact after two months. If successful, similar measures could be considered in the future.
